Conditions
Conditions allow you to control the visibility of survey pages or individual modules.
A module or page will only appear if the respondent’s answers or demographic data meet the defined condition.
Example
Scenario:
You have created a survey about pets. In a question on page 1 you ask the respondents if they have pets.
On page 2 you include follow-up questions, but one question should only be shown to respondents who answered that they have pets.
Solution:
Apply a condition, based on respondents who have answered that they have pets on page 1, to the specific question on page 2 so that only pet owners see it.
Where to create Conditions
You can access the Condition Manager in three ways:
Creating a New Condition
Click the Create condition icon (Funnel icon). See above for different ways to access the Condition Manager.
Name the Condition
Choose a clear, descriptive name.
Click Add Statement to add your statement. You may add multiple statements.
Select a category, i.e. which type of data the statement should be based on:
Question
Base the statement on one of the questions you have in your survey.
Demographical data
Base the statement on one of the demographic data fields you have on your account.
Select a Parameter by choosing the specific question or demographic field.
Choose an Operator (Comparison Logic)
Operators available generally:
<> – Not equal to / greater or less than the value
= – Equal to the value
Operators available for textbox and text area questions:
LIKE – Contains the value
NOT LIKE – Does not contain the value
> alphanumeric (abc123) – Alphabetically less than
< alphanumeric (abc123) – Alphabetically greater than
> numeric (123) – Numerically less than
< numeric (123) – Numerically greater than
> date (yyyy-mm-dd) – Earlier than the given date
< date (yyyy-mm-dd) – Later than the given date
Enter or select the value required for the statement.
Choose Between AND / OR for relatively last.
AND – Respondent must meet all statements.
OR – Respondent must meet at least one statement.
If you want to add another statement to the condition, simply click the Add statement. Otherwise just click the Close button to save your condition and close the popup.
Applying a Condition to a Module
Click the Settings icon on the module.
Under Settings, open the Condition dropdown.
Select the condition you created.
A condition tag will appear on the module indicating it has conditional logic applied.
The module will show only for respondents who match the condition.
Branching
Branching allows you to direct respondents to specific pages of the survey, based on their selected answer alternatives.
Example
Scenario:
You have created a survey about pets. In a question on page 1 you ask the respondents if they have pets or not.
Those who say Yes should continue to pages 2 and 3.
Those who say No should skip directly to the Thank You page.
Solution:
Assign branching to the “No” answer alternative that redirects respondents to the “Thank You” page.
Assign Branching on an Answer Alternative
Click the Branching icon next to the answer alternative.
In the Branch Manager pop-up Select the survey page to redirect respondents to if they choose this answer.
Click Save.
The branching icon of the answer alternative will turn darker indicating that branching is enabled for that specific alternative. If a respondent selects the answer alternative you have branched, the respondent will be redirected to the survey page you have chosen for the branching.
Important Note for Checkbox QuestionsIf you have a Checkbox question in your survey, respondents may select multiple answers. Branching follows top-to-bottom priority:
