About Demographic Data
Demographic data helps you understand who your subscribers are—like where they live, their membership status, or their job. With this information, you can:
Personalise your newsletters
Target specific groups more effectively
Improve your marketing results
Where to find Demographic Data
To view and manage demographic data:
Go to the Recipient section settings
Click the Demographic Data tab
Here, you can see all the data fields—places where subscriber information is stored.
Note! There are already standard parameters in APSIS Pro for subscriber name, email, phone number, country code and password: ##SubscriberName##, ##SubscriberEmail##, ##PhoneNumber##, ##CountryCode## and ##Password##.
How to create a new Data field
By default, you have 25 data fields available, each capable of holding up to 500 characters. These fields can contain different types of subscriber information. Once created, they will be accessible during the import process when adding subscribers to a mailing list. If your import file includes details beyond email addresses, you can match that data to the demographic fields you’ve set up in APSIS Pro.
To add a new field:
Give it a name (e.g., City, Membership)
If you want to limit the values, type them separated by double commas (e.g., Gold,,Silver,,Bronze)
Leave it blank if any value is allowed
Check Hidden if the field should not be available to the subscribers
Click Save
Think of these fields as empty boxes—ready to be filled with subscriber data.
Once the fields are created, you can fill them with data, either manually or by doing an import.
Importing subscribers with demographic data
Importing subscribers with demographic data
If you already possess demographic data about your subscribers that you wish to import together with your subscribers’ email addresses, you should place each type of demographic data in a separate column of your Excel file (comma separated in CSV). The headings for each type of data should be entered in the first row and the subscribers and their values should be inserted in the rows below:
Note that you always have to include the subscribers’ email address in one of the columns of your import file in order for the import to work. The subscribers’ email address is used as subscriber ID, making sure your imported values are being connected to the right subscribers on the account.
Prepare your import by creating the demographic data fields you want to have on your account before importing the subscribers. During the import process you will match these fields with the demographic data (headings) from your import file.
How to use Demographic data for personalization
Demographic data helps you personalize and target your email campaigns more effectively. Here’s how you can make the most of it:
Segment Your Audience
Use demographic fields to create filters (e.g., “Subscribers in Sweden” or “Customers aged 25–35”).
Filters work like segments and allows you to send targeted campaigns. You can add filters to segment content in module based newsletters or to segment a sending.
Personalize Your Emails
Insert demographic data into your email using dynamic content.
Example: “Hello ##Firstname##, here’s an offer for customers in ##City##.”
You can find all available parameters by clicking the Dynamic Content button in the newsletter editor.
Use in Marketing Automation
Add demographic conditions to your automation workflows.
Example: Send different welcome emails based on region or language.
✅ Tip: Keep demographic data accurate and updated for best results.
Collecting demographic data in APSIS Pro
Not enough data to start to personalize your emails?
If you only have information about your subscribers’ email addresses and perhaps their names, APSIS Pro can help you collect additional data.
Start by deciding what kind of data you want to collect about your subscribers; first names, last names, birthdates, gender, postal code, phone numbers etc. Think about what data you can use to improve your email marketing efforts.
In APSIS Pro you can use subscription form(s) and the Update Subscription Form (##UpdateMySubscription##) to get your subscribers to add/edit their demographic data and subscriptions. You can also use the Survey tool (add-on) to create surveys where you let the subscribers (respondents) provide you with information. The information can be directly sent from their incoming answers and placed into selected demographical data fields on your account
