Filtering Subscribers By Activity Or Inactivity
Keeping your subscribers engaged is key to successful email campaigns. Filtering your list based on subscriber activity helps you send reminders, target active readers, or re-engage those who haven't interacted recently. Use this guide to set up clear filters and keep your communications relevant.
Step 1: Define What You Want To Achieve
Start by deciding whom you want to reach. For instance, you may want to remind subscribers who have not opened last week's invitation.
Step 2: Name Your Filter
Give your filter a clear, descriptive name. In this example, call it invitation unopened. This will make it easy to find and reuse.
Step 3: Save The Filter
Choose Save from the category dropdown menu so your filter settings are stored.
Step 4: Set Up Filter Conditions
Now, define who should be filtered. Select Opens as the filter condition. Pick the right newsletter, then set the option for Have opened the newsletter to "No".
Step 5: Add The Filter
Once you have set the conditions, select Add to make the filter active.
💡Did You Know?
You can also create filters based on which subscribers clicked—or did not click—links in your invitation. This helps you understand what content is grabbing attention.
Step 6: Filter By Clicks
To focus on clicks, select Clicks from the category menu. This lets you segment subscribers based on link interaction.
Step 7: Choose The Newsletter And Link
Pick the newsletter and the specific link you want to track. Decide whether you want the filter to spot those who clicked the link or those who did not.
Select newsletter.
Select link.
If they clicked = Yes
If they did not click = No
Tip: You can combine multiple filter statements for more precise targeting. Filters can apply to a single newsletter or to a list of recipients when sending a follow-up.
Step 8: Use The Inactivity Category To Segment
The Inactivity category helps you find subscribers who have not interacted with your emails over a set number of campaigns. This is especially helpful if you want to reach out to dormant subscribers or reward those who are most engaged.
Step 9: Set Up Inactivity Conditions
Choose Inactivity from the menu, then select either Unopened or Unclicked. Specify how many recent emails you'd like this to apply to. For example, filter those who have not opened the last five emails.
Note! This filter works best for subscribers who have been on your list long enough to receive the set number of emails.
Choose Unopened or Unclicked.
Choose type; equal, smaller than or larger then.
Choose the number of emails larger than.
Step 10: View The Matches
Click Show Matches to see which subscribers fit your criteria.
Quick Summary
Filtering by activity and inactivity helps you target the right subscribers for your campaigns. Whether you are sending reminders, offers, or updates, these filter tools let you deliver more relevant communications to the right people at the right time!
